Jim and Janelle Larson will always support a “cause for paws” as proud dog owners for more than 14 years. So when the local humane society had to cancel their upcoming fundraiser, it was time for them to kick in a container for the canines!
After Elmbrook Humane Society’s postponement of their March 14th fundraiser in order to help thwart the spread of COVID-19, the Larsons donated a container from their local UNITS Moving and Portable Storage business so the humane society could store their auction items until they can reschedule the auction. The Elmbrook Humane Society will have use of the container free of charge for the next 60 days.
“This was a no-brainer for Janelle and me,” Jim said, “Elmbrook Humane Society does such incredible work in our community. Donating a container to keep their items safe until they can reschedule is the least we could do.”
The yearly “Paws for a Cause Dinner and Auction” is one of Elmbrook Humane Society’s biggest fundraisers of the year, annually bringing in more than $100,000 to support their mission to provide shelter for homeless animals, promote the human-animal bond, and prevent animal cruelty and neglect.
“We were devastated by the reality of having to postpone our fundraiser, even though we know it was the right thing to do,” Director of Philanthropy Dawn Wollenzien said. “We’re just grateful for businesses like UNITS Moving and Portable Storage for helping us keep everything safe until we can reschedule.”
Larson expects to hear from more local charities in need as their events get postponed while showing caution during the coronavirus pandemic, but he’s ready to help.
“We’re a small business, so we may not be able to honor every request, but we certainly want to help local charities impacted by coronavirus concern if we can,” he said.
