Cape Henry marks the southern entrance to the Chesapeake Bay and sees a large amount of ocean-going shipping traffic for the harbors. The Lighthouse is made of the same Aquia sandstone as much of Washington D.C. and has guided sea travelers to safety for more than 100 years. Visitors are welcome seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In 1642, Adam Thoroughgood started the “ferry” service to connect plantations by the waterways, and this is how the Ferry Plantation House got its name. The house is reputed to be haunted by 11 spirits and has a rich historical past. It has been used as a plantation, courthouse, school, and post office. It is currently a museum and education center. Tours are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
