Whether you’ve just moved into a new home or are simply looking to spruce things up a bit, doing a room redesign can work wonders in transforming your space into something new and fresh. However, you don’t have to drop big bucks on hiring an interior designer to get a beautiful result; you just have to think like one!
Step One: Walk the Walk
The first step to thinking like an interior designer is to start acting like one! Look at your space as if you’ve been hired to do the redesign. Start to formulate a plan and figure out what you’re trying to accomplish, whether it’s a total redesign or just a simple paint refresh. Decide on a budget and figure out what’s reasonable to get done within that budget.
Step Two: Look for Inspiration
Start watching some home improvement shows, do research on Pinterest or other home-improvement sites and see what other people have done in similar spaces. Start to get an idea of what colors you’re leaning toward.
Step Three: Decide What Stays & What Goes
Look at your space with fresh eyes. Is furniture placed in a way that’s functional and feasible for how you live in your space? Are certain pieces redundant? Do you think you could get more out of the space by rearranging the furniture or adding new pieces?
Step Four: Consult With Professionals
When you go look for tile, paint, or furniture, talk to the people who work at these businesses and see if they have any tips or insight for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
When in doubt, take a step back and reassess your plan. Is everything coming together harmoniously, or do you need to refresh your approach? Keep in mind that you have to live in this space, so it needs to work for your lifestyle!
