Everybody knows how stressful it is to have to move all of your belongings from one place to another. Just when you think you’ve finished packing, you realize that you forgot something, and then before you know it, your moving day is here and everything has come to a halt. If you want to avoid these sorts of moving mistakes, keep reading for some helpful moving tips from the team at UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Ogden.
1. You don’t get rid of things
There is no better time to edit down your personal belongings than right before a move. The less you have to move the better and unpacking things you no longer want or need is a waste of time. It’s easy to just throw everything in a box without going through it first but instead do some organizing and get rid of what you don’t need.
2. Moving all of your furniture without wrapping it first
When moving large objects like furniture, it is important to not only protect them with moving blankets but also to wrap them in moving plastic. This will protect your furniture from damages that could occur due to moving accidents.
3. Forcing large items through small doorways
When moving, there will be times when you have to fit something (like a couch) through a tight doorway. To do this without damaging the doorway or your moving object, it is important to be able to lift and guide one side of the moving object through the door at a time. Be sure to measure your doorways and walls to make sure that your furniture will fit the way you want it to.
4. Not giving yourself enough time to pack
Packing takes time. Most people drastically underestimate the amount of time that packing up their belongings will take. Giving yourself enough time takes careful planning but will relieve stress and make the move a much easier process.
5. Not asking for help when you need it
Of course, not everyone is in good enough shape to lift heavy objects so the idea that friends and family will help you move your heavy furniture is oftentimes unrealistic. It’s important to not only ask for assistance with the smaller, lighter items but also to be prepared to employ a moving company if necessary.
