Utah is one of the most beautiful places to move to and even visit on vacation. Aside from the beautiful scenery, Ogden is home for many protected species. Here are 10 species you can see in the wild when you move to or visit Ogden, Utah.
- Mountain Lions. As these beautiful creatures mostly keep away from humans, they are still present in habitats where there is abundant prey. In Utah, mountain lions take cover within pinyon-juniper and pine-oak brush areas on rocky cliffs and ledges. So if you go on a hike, just be cautious and bring people with you.
- Black Bears are the only bears you will find in Utah. However, they are not always black in color as their fur can range from white to every shade of brown. If you spot one, keep your distance and also if you are camping, do not leave food out.
- Buffalo. Although Buffalo may not roam that often through Ogden Utah, Utah’s Henry Mountain range is home to one of the only free roaming bison herds found on North American public lands.
- American Bald Eagle. There are several places in Utah, where you can observe this iconic and beautiful bird.
- Moose. Utah is home to between 2,500 and 3,000 moose and they are such beautiful and giant creatures. They can be found along the Wasatch Front and in northern and northeastern Utah, typically in forested areas.
- River Otters. People who live in Utah will see these adorable semiaquatic mammals in the Green River, in Flaming Gorge Reservoir and along the Colorado, Provo, Strawberry, Duchesne and Escalante rivers and their tributaries.
- Roadrunners. Roadrunners are native to Utah even though there are not so many around. You can see greater roadrunners primarily in the southern part of the state, particularly in Washington, Kane and San Juan counties.
- Pikas. American pikas can be found in southern Utah and their populations are limited to a few talus slopes on the higher mountains in the region.
- Flying Squirrels. They are quite common to Utah but very hard to spot, so when you’re on a walk, see if you can find them in mature coniferous forests and riparian zones.
- Snipes. Wilson’s snipes are small, migratory birds that typically migrate through Utah in the spring and fall, but some stay year-round.
