The season you move in can make a world of a difference for the safety of your plants. Roots can be sensitive to the harsh temperatures of summer and winter. So, if you have time to plan when you move, opt for the spring and fall months.
The next tip we have to ensure the health and safety of your plants during transport is to hydrate them. The night before you uproot the plants to move them, water each one thoroughly. That will allow plenty of time for the roots and soil to soak up the water and feel nourished.
Once you’re ready to uproot your plants, you will want to do so carefully. Using your trowel, dig a circle around the plants, avoiding any roots. After that, gently lift your plant out of the ground while still keeping a healthy amount of soil on the roots. Carefully place the plant in an adequately sized container for transport. If possible, make this the last step of your moving process. The less time your plants spend out of the soil, the better.
Last but not least, replant as soon as possible.
One of the best ways to make this process a breeze is by mapping out where you will place each plant before you move them. Having each spot dug out and ready to go will ensure a seamless transition.
