If you put a lot of time and effort into your gardening, you may have concerns about not being able to take your plants along when moving. But you don’t have to worry anymore!
UNITS Moving and Portable Storage of Jacksonville FL is here to help you with these five simple tips that will make moving your plants possible.
The weather and season can play a crucial role in the safety of your plants during the move.
That’s because the roots can be sensitive to the harsh conditions of winter and summer. So, if you have the option to move in the spring or fall, that is what we recommend. But not all hope is lost if that isn’t an option. You just have to be careful.
The size of your plant can also play a factor in the ease of the move.
If your plant is on the larger side, consider trimming it down. The larger your plant, the more energy it needs to survive. So, remove all of the dead leaves and a bit of the excess foliage. It will help the plant conserve energy during the move.
Ensuring your plants are nourished before uprooting is wise.
The night before you uproot the plants, give them a thorough watering. That will allow plenty of time for the roots and soil to soak up the water and hydrate themselves.
Once it’s time to uproot the plant, you will want to follow a slow and steady process.
To avoid damaging the roots, dig a wide circle around the plant with a trowel. Once you have the circle, carefully lift the plant, keeping a healthy amount of soil attached to the roots. Finally, place the plant into an appropriately sized planter for transport.
And lastly, remember to replant as soon as possible.
To help make this last step easier, try making your plants the last thing you move. The less time they spend out of the ground the better. It’s also a good idea to map out where you’re putting each plant before you arrive.
