Chanticleer is a 1913 estate that is home to a series of formal gardens that were developed in 1990 after the death of the home’s owners. Originally known as Bryn Mawr, Harriton House is the former residence of Charles Thomson, the secretary of the Continental Congress. Built in 1704, the town of Bryn Mawr, meaning “high hill,” is named after the house. The house was renovated in 1911 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Guided tours are available Tuesday through Saturday.
