If you plan on moving in the future, you may be concerned that you won’t be able to take your plants along for the journey. But not all hope is lost!
UNITS Moving and Storage of Fort Lauderdale wants to offer some practical tips for safely and securely moving plants.
The roots of your plants can be sensitive to warmer temperatures; if it’s possible, you should move during the fall or spring. That is especially true if you are moving with a giant plant collection – planning ahead of time can be a life-saver.
The larger the plant, the more energy it needs. To help conserve that energy while being uprooted, you should give your plants a nice trimming before going on your way. Simply remove any excess leaves that are dead and wilting.
Just like humans, plants need hydration too, and when they feel dehydrated, it can put a lot of unnecessary stress on them. So, before you uproot the plants that you’re moving, give them a thorough watering. It’s best to do this the night before you plan on uprooting them, so the water can seep into the soil and replenish the roots.
The truth is, your plants aren’t going to enjoy the uprooting process, and it can put a strain on them. That’s why you should be careful during this process. The best way to do this is by digging a wide circle with a trowel around the plant, ensuring not to touch any roots. Then you will want to carefully lift the plant and try to keep as much soil as possible attached to it. Ensure you have a pot big enough to place it in after.
And last but certainly not least, you will need to replant them as soon as you can. If you can, we recommend packing up your plants last, so they aren’t out of their permanent spot for too long.
