Many believe that anything they own can be stored in a storage container, but this is not true. Some items are not allowed to be transported in these containers. Knowing what you cannot pack ahead of time is key to avoiding any issues later on down the road. The following is a list of outlawed objects.

You cannot ship hazardous materials like gasoline, pesticides, explosives, and oil-chlorine bleach. These items are also forbidden to transport in moving containers.

Containers do not have the capability to preserve perishables like food. If they are not kept cool, the food will go bad.

Pesticides, cleaning supplies, and pool chemicals should never be carelessly strewn about, as they could endanger humans or the environment. Store these items in a safe, locked space instead.

It is unsafe for both people and property to store explosives, ammunition, or firecrackers in containers.

Animals, both dead and alive, are not permitted in containers during transport. This rule covers all pets and animals raised on farms.

Before you travel, you’ll need to figure out how to transport any combination of the items on the list above without compromising their safety. You may be able to send some items ahead of time or come up with another method of transportation that doesn’t require bringing everything with you at once.

Play it safe by always consulting with your moving company of choice and seeing what their policy is on these types of things. If you plan everything out in detail beforehand, you can be confident that all of your belongings will make it to your new place intact.

Combustible materials
