Rotating the coats, jackets, hats, and gloves from the winter out for the swimsuits, t-shirts, and shorts of the summer can be an arduous and time consuming process. Today, we will provide some tips for making it as pain-free and quick as possible. Keep reading to find out more.

Preparation

Preparation makes any undertaking easier, and rotating clothes is no different. You should make sure all of the winter clothes going into storage are clean and folded properly. You don’t want to have to wash all of them next winter to get wrinkles or smell out.

Laundry Pile

Piling up all of your winter clothes is a great way to start. Then you can sort them into colors and get them all washed before preparing them for storage. Washing clothes before storage also lessens the damage they can potentially receive while in storage. Some of your winter items, like cashmere sweaters, may need to be dry cleaned. If your clothes are clean they have less of a chance of attracting moths and other bugs. Storing smelly items also runs the risk of creating impossible to get rid of odors that may render some clothing items unusable. This is very important for winter items because of the sweat they absorb from constant use.

Folding Versus Hanging

Some items benefit from one or the other. Sweaters should be folded and placed in plastic bins or boxes. They are hardier than other garments and won’t get damaged by doing this. The only risk with sweaters is putting too many of them in one container. This can put lots of wrinkles in them and weaken their threading. Winter coats are some of the bulkiest clothing items, making them hard to store. Coats made of leather, wool, or fur should be folded gently and not packed tightly so they can keep their shape and retain their beautiful crafting.

Casual clothing like gloves, hats, and insulating undergarments can be packed in whatever way is most convenient. These items have a low chance of getting damaged during storage, especially if they are made out of inexpensive material. Shoes and boots are also bulky items, with the added disadvantage that they can’t be folded to take up less space. Shoes and boots also have the highest potential to have and retain odor. Make sure you add plenty of deodorizers to the interior of the shoe before storing as well as cleaning off any grim on the exterior.
