Make a List

Start by making a list of the items in your collection. This may be tedious if you have an especially large collection, but it is a crucial task in organizing your collection and making sure everything is accounted for. Prior to packing your collection for moving and storage, it may also be a good idea to take photographs of your collection to document the items as well as its condition.

Safely Pack Your Collection

After you’ve made an inventory of your collection, it’s time to start packing. Make sure to clean off all your items before packing as any built-up dust, dirt, and grime can stain and damage your belongings. If you are able to, disassemble larger items for easier packing. When applicable, store your collection in their original packaging or a special storage case. From there, box everything up with an adequate amount of packing material and padding. Be sure to never use newspaper as the ink can stain your belongings. Add a few silica packets to each box to absorb any excess moisture.

Label Your Boxes

When packing your collection for moving and storage, one of the most important things to do is properly label your boxes. While listing and photographing the items in your collection, it can be especially helpful to categorize your belongings and labeling their boxes accordingly. When it comes time to unpack, you know exactly what’s in each box, making it easy to locate and unpack your entire collection without having to look through all your other boxes.
