Most people would agree: moving is probably one of the least fun and most stressful chores that exists in life. But the one thing that separates a successful move from an unsuccessful one is attitude! Even when you’re at your most stressed and overwhelmed, it’s important to keep your sense of humor and try to find something funny in all the madness.
Laugh!
Like yawns, laughter can be contagious! Your attitude will rub off on the people around you, so strive to see things in a positive light and laugh at the ridiculousness of your situation.
Turn Moving into a Game
Whether are trying to get kids involved or are just trying to add a little fun to a mundane situation, it’s easier than you think to turn the moving process into a game. See who can fill boxes the fastest, or who can win at “packing Tetris” to fit as many things into a box as possible.
Music as a Mood Lifter
Create a playlist of happy, upbeat music and play it as you pack. Music has been proven to influence moods, so by listening to positive music, you’ll be more likely to have a positive moving experience.
“Pain is Temporary”
Surround yourself with positive reinforcement. Keep telling yourself (and everyone helping you) that the moving process is a temporary inconvenience and that you’re on your way to a great adventure! Great mantras include: “This, too, shall pass;” “wonderful things are about to unfold for me;” “have pride in how far I have come and faith in how far I can go;” “be positive and persistent.” Whenever you start to feel negativity coming on, take a minute to close your eyes and breathe and repeat your favorite affirmations in your head.
